Schedule

History Marathon Bridge was started in 1995 by Dot Lewis.  Originally, it was held in two sessions: winter and summer.  A few years ago, these were merged into the full year session which we have today.

The way it works

Each year, a schedule is set up which starts in January and runs until mid-October.  It identifies the team matches which should be played in each bi-weekly period.

At the end of the year, typically early November, we have a Wind-up Party, which is a pot luck BYOB with prizes for the winners and a fun bridge game.

In the early years of the group, there were fewer teams than today, but as people moved into the area, interest in Marathon Bridge increased.  We have set a limit of 20 to the number of teams because that is as many as we feel can conveniently fit into the year (and some of us struggle to meet that requirement!).  This year, we have room for new players, so if you are interested in joining and are an intermediate or better player, please e-mail Lynn Griffiths.

Procedures
  1. It is the responsibility of the Host to contact the Guest and arrange a suitable time to play their match and to report the resulting score to the Score Keeper (this year: Ian Smith).

  2. Dates are provided to allow you to pace yourself and make sure that you have time to get in all your games.

  3. Although dates are flexible, all matches must be completed by October 31, 2012.

  4. If one member of a team is unable to attend a game, you may invite a spare.

  5. It is customary for the host/hostess to provide a light dessert with coffee/tea, either before, during, or after the bridge game.

  6. The Wind-up Party is normally held in early November in the Senior's Room at Nanoose Place, drinks starting at 5:30, dinner at 6:30.

  7. Each Team is assessed a small fee (amount TBD by Lynn) each year which is used for the Wind-up Party and prizes.
